Café Supervisor

40hrs per week

To supervise and develop a small team of Café staff and work with the Chef Manager to develop the Column Bakehouse customer experience with the aim of providing exceptional service, delivery, and increasing footfall.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage shift rotas, stock control and cleaning schedules
  • Maintain accurate records keeping and efficient administration processes
  • Develop and manage relationships with customers; ensure a positive, friendly and efficient service is delivered by staff and volunteers and respond to complaints and queries
  • Maintain standards of performance that meet our legal obligations; monitor and maintain staff training and development needs, such as to meet food hygiene requirements
  • Maintain daily financial systems, including cashing up each day
  • Cover café assistant duties when required including serving customers, making food and drinks and cleaning the café
  • In conjunction with the Head Baker and Chef Manager, develop a group of suppliers that meet the café’s needs whilst maintaining our ‘buy local’ policy. Manage the ordering process to ensure the cafe is never out of stock of key items
  • Meet suppliers and undertake regular stock takes and audits as agreed with the Chef Manager
  • Oversee and direct the café staff – including induction of new team members
  • Oversee, train and support work placements and volunteers who offer their time to help them contribute to the Café’s operation
  • Ensure health and safety of staff and customers in the cafe; promote high levels of cleanliness and hygiene at all times and ensure any maintenance of equipment and machinery is reported in a timely fashion to the Chef Manager
  • Occasional support to hospitality and other aspects of the organisation activity
